I just found out I'm going to be in Seattle for 2 weeks starting next Monday the 8th. If anyone is gigging or knows of cool gigs let me know. (or wants to hang obviously)

One thing I really need to find if possible is someplace downtown where I can rent a room with a kit to practice. If you guys know of a place, please email me or PM me so I can try to get something setup. I'll either be in the Westin in downtown or some Disney owned apartments near there.

    Thanks!

Man I wish you were here on the 6th since I am doing a gig @ the Ballard Firehouse which is a short drive north and east of Seattle. Anyway, some cool places to see gigs:

    The Central Saloon
    Ballard Firehouse
    Studio 7
    Tommy's
    Graceland

It also depends on what gigs you are looking to see. Most of the places I mentioned are rock type venues...Danny Carey just played at Studio 7 with PLC and I've seen a ton of cool bands at Graceland. The other places I mentioned are pretty tiny laid back venues. Oh, Jazz Alley is another venue worth checking out.

Well, McCoy Tyner will be in town at Jazz Alley on Sept. 16-21st. Charnett Moffett on bass and Eric Harland on drums. There is a place called "Chop Suey" on Capitol Hill which hosts many styles from D&B to Metal to Tabla/techno/fusion (Karsh Kale stuff if you are familiar with him). Ballard firehouse is happenin' for stuff on the rock side of things. On Tuesdays there is a place downtown called the Owl and Thistle, they have happenin' jam sessions sometimes... depending on who shows up. It's a jazz jam BTW. The Central is pretty cool too, their stuff is from rock to funk to some fusion type stuff. I saw Virgil at the Graceland so they are hip to some things... more on the rock side, hard rock side. If you really want to see some GOOD jazz Portland is 3 hours south and is the place for straight ahead. There is also a band in town here that plays the pop-indie rock thing called "Death Cab for Cutie". If they are playing in town you should check their drummer. His name is Jason McGerr and he can PLAY. He has all the Jo Jo Mayer one handed stuff and foot work on both feet totally down. I went to a master class with Billy Ward and Jason was there and when he sat down and played Billy was jockin' his stuff... Billy loved his playing. So yeah, the guy is pretty hip. On the drum and bass side there is a dude named Kevin Sawka who plays in a band called Siamese... good acoustic D&B stuff. So there is a few of the things to check while here. We don't have much going on in Seattle but those are some of the bands and places that come to mind off the top of my head. I MIGHT be in Seattle but with school starting i may be in other parts of the state. If i am around it would be cool to hang. Oh, if you are looking for a place to rent practice rooms with kits, there is a place in North Seattle, only 10 min from downtown... literally only about 5 exits north from downtown on I-5. It's the Seattle Drum School (206)364-8815. It's the only place that i really know of, oh, and that one drummer named Jason i was telling you about teaches there. Hopefully some of this helps a little. If i am around it would be killer to hang. I might check out Omni's gig on the 6th if i can make it.
    Peace,
    Ryan
